"Breast cancer is not a pink ribbon", like the pins you place on your lapel. States David Jay, a fashion photographer responsible for the portraits of the young cancer survivors, all of which are between 18 - 35 years of age, "The Scar Project". What started out as a cancer awareness raising campaign for age groups that are very often ignore is already a project with a documentary, book and exhibition (with the inauguration set for the 17th October in Houston, USA), which already has almost 100 portraits. The name of the project, SCAR, comes from the scars and the message that David Jay wants to transmit: "Surviving Cancer Absolute Reality". "For some of these young women, being featured is like a personal victory over this dreaded illness. It helps them recove their femininity, sexuality, identity and their power, after such an important part of them has been taken away", says David on the project's site.
