Petri dishes: paintings that go well under the microscope

Fotogaleria

A Petri dish is used in a laboratory for the bacteria or algae cultures. An object which is common in science, of course it fits nicely under the microscope. Klari Reis might actually agree but with a nuance: a Petri dish can be used in art. Beginning with this premise, the San Francisco artist created a calendar. And, for each day, a painting. There are blues and vivid greens, oranges, yellows or purples. Reds, several. The shapes can resemble medusas, planets or volcanos. Some actually resemble bacteria, now that we are talking about Petri dishes. If Klari Reis questions the utilisation of this piece, should the interpretation of her paintings be so rigid? Exactly. The Petri dishes go very nicely with medusas, planets and volcanoes.
