José Eduardo dos Santos, uma vida política em imagens

Aquele que foi Presidente de Angola durante 38 anos (1979-2017) morreu esta sexta-feira na clínica em Barcelona onde estava internado desde 23 de Junho.

Nascido de uma família pobre num musseque de Luanda, estudou engenharia de petróleos em Baku, no Azerbaijão, no tempo da União Soviética, foi ministro das Relações Exteriores depois da independência, e também ministro do Planeamento e Desenvolvimento Económico, antes de ser escolhido para suceder ao primeiro Presidente de Angola, Agostinho Neto, quando este morreu durante uma operação cirúrgica em 1979.

Apesar de discreto, sem carisma e de poucas falas, conseguiu consolidar-se no poder onde permaneceu durante 38 anos até que a crise económica o obrigou a passar o testemunho, em 2017, ao actual Presidente João Lourenço. Apesar de ter sido uma escolha sua, a tensão entre os dois marcou os últimos tempos da sua vida, tendo chegado a viver em Barcelona durante dois anos, cidade onde viria a morrer esta sexta-feira, na clínica em que estava internado desde 23 de Junho.
