Intimate portraits of a child called Alice

Fotogaleria

Sian Davey was caught off-guard when she found out that her daughter had Down Syndrome. As a psychologist and mother of four she was faced with the challenge of raising a child which is so-called ‘imperfect’ by society, and admitted that she was very badly prepared to be able to treat Alice the same way as she did her other children. Sian confessed that she was ‘extremely anxious, which affected all of the aspects of her relationship with her’. The initial fear and worry forced her to deal with her own limitations and made her realise that Alice is like anyone else, deserving love, affection and a happy and full life. Looking For Alice is a set of intimate portraits which focus on family life, with all its highs and lows, and at the same time a testimony to Alice’s strength and courage.
