Malala, the young face of the Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Pakistani activist Malala Yousufzai and Indian, Kailash Satyarthi. It was announced in Oslo by the Norwegian Nobel Committee President, Thorbjoern Jagland, who affirmed that ‘children must go to school and not be financially exploited’. According to the committee these two activists were awarded this prize ‘for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education’. The Nobel Committee would like to highlight an important point, the fact that the award went to ‘a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education and against extremism’.
